Postcard from Kauai
We work hard at YouSolar but must take a break from time to time. If you have kids, as my wife and I do, an “exotic” summer vacation is a lifelong gift to children.
We want our lives to reflect our values. To limit carbon emissions, we have a rule that, as a family, we can only have one flight per year. That makes for careful decisions on where to go on the “budget.”
This year, the family is spending two weeks on Kauai. We are camping on Polihale Beach for the first half, just south of Kauai’s Nā Pali Coast. The camping fee is $30 per night for the group. For this, you get a priceless beach and volcanic cliffs.

We only protect what we love, and my wife and I show our children the beauty and power of nature by immersing ourselves in it. In past years, we have spent weeks paddling in Minnesota’s Boundary Waters Canoe Area. This year, we will play on the beach, surf, and dive in the Pacific.
Yesterday, a pod of dolphins cruised down the beach. A feral cat drinks water at the park’s shower at night. Roosters wake you up before you care. It is the real world. It is our planet. It is the only blue planet we know has life.
It is 5 AM. Jet lag and roosters set the alarm. The kids are still sleeping. Let them wake up to a healthy planet.
