Off Grid Living in the Santa Lucia Mountains
The dirt road to our customer’s home runs alongside a narrow canyon with towering redwoods.
A small stream winds between ferns at the bottom. Sequoioideae, commonly referred to as redwood trees, achieved their maximal diversity during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. They are the world’s tallest trees.
After a few miles, we transferred to ATVs for the final leg of our adventure.
Shortly afterwards, we arrived at a home with a compact footprint in the sun hundreds of feet above the Pacific.
The off-grid home is built on a natural terrace and has stunning views out to the Pacific Ocean
A solar battery system built 15 years ago has kept this refuge running, but it required frugal use of energy and running a generator on overcast days. Now, the customer wants to add electric vehicles. A new and larger kitchen and wine cellar will also add more electrical load.
A YouSolar PowerBloc will soon provide independent power to this home.
The PowerBloc will have a 13 kW solar array, over 100 kWh of energy storage, bi-directional EV charging, and generator integration for emergency backup. The PowerBloc provides a fully integrated storage and power solution with a compact footprint in tall, beautiful cabinets.
Our customer will be able to live a modern, all-electric life high up on this wild and scenic property.
