Made in America, by Arnold Leitner, CEO
I went to Columbia Business School. I graduated at the top of my class. But I had no interest in success by getting a job in the finance industry, being a hedge fund manager, or getting one over on someone else. Instead, I wanted to make great products, employ people, pay for their health care–and, yes, pay taxes.
I have done precisely that over two decades. My first company, SkyFuel’s innovative parabolic trough collector, is one of the major achievements on the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s timeline. I will happily take that anytime over a street address in the Hamptons.

Batteries and chassis arriving at YouSolar’s Product Development Center in Santa Clara, CA.
Now, at YouSolar, we are building the world’s most advanced high-power solar-battery system, essentially a solar nanogrid, to answer the world’s clean energy challenges and the coming electricity demand explosion. The global power market is forecast to double over the next decade to reach USD 4.5 trillion by 2034. But where do you think this electric energy is going to come from? That is why we are building the PowerBloc.
We proudly build the PowerBloc here in America. The inverter comes from Minnesota. The modules are built in San Jose, CA, and the power electronics are from Monterey, CA. Only our batteries come from China. Why? Because we cannot buy them here. That is because, for the last decades, we have given up CleanTech to China.
So, here we are, happily making the PowerBloc nanogrid in the Sunshine State, wearing our propeller hats, and applying our talent and time to something that makes a difference.
