Staying Connected in 2024
We have confessed our love for connectors before. But one connector is special. This 2-pole power connector is used in all of our power modules and is shown below on a sample of our new 100 V battery.
Many 2-pole high-power connectors are out there, but they are primarily designed for electric vehicles.
Connectors designed for EVs are often bulky and straight. To find a compact and right-angle high-power connector took luck and patience.

YouSolars’ new 2-pole power connector for power inputs, including from the solar array, utility, or generator.
We were lucky because a speciality connector maker had just developed the connector. We also had to be patient because all we had initially was drawings and a CAD rendering.
YouSolar became the first company to adopt this new connector. The manufacturer was very supportive and sent its R&D team and national sales manager to understand how we wanted to use the connector.
This connector has everything we wanted. It carries all the power we need but also comes “keyed”, which means that, like a house key in a door lock, certain plugs only insert in matching sockets.
The keyed connector allowed us to use the same connector type in two different modules of the PowerBloc without the risk of an installation error.
The connector is also very easy to service in the field, which is particularly important for connectors that “import” power into or “export” power from the PowerBloc because cable runs may vary. The easy-to-service connector allows us to terminate cables in the field if necessary.
With one exception, there are no connections in the PowerBloc that require tightening. It’s all “click and go”. Plug-and-Play is at the core of the PowerBloc.
Stay tuned for one more update in this series before we show you the first rendering of the amazing third-generation PowerBloc. Because in our passion for a plug-and-play system, the connectors are just the foreplay.
