• Massive Load Growth from Electrification: Electric cooktops and ovens replace the gas range, furnaces are swapped out for heat pumps, dryers, and hot tubs are increasingly powered electrically, and electric vehicles are added to many homes. This means that the electrical loads in an average household are bound to more than double in the near future.

• Functionality During Outages: Consumers in highly developed countries have been used to near-perfect power for decades, and there is a limited willingness to settle for less. As climate-induced natural disasters and preventive shutdowns disrupt the power supply more frequently, and for longer durations, energy resilience is becoming an important consideration for anyone who builds or remodels a home.

• Generator Integration with Solar+Storage: In off-grid scenarios and for critical facilities, an additional layer of backup beyond solar plus to is often required. Diesel and propane generators are still the most commonplace solution, but there are more attractive alternatives, such as residential fuel cells or using an electric vehicle as an emergency backup (vehicle-to-home), as we have reported in a recent update.
