Tomorrow, America votes. All over the newsrooms, pundits will tap and swipe the latest results of the U.S. presidential election on the “magic walls.”

Meanwhile, Spain is cleaning up and struggling to decide when, where, how, or if to rebuild its infrastructure after the biggest flood in decades–or even its history.

Over only a few hours, an ocean fell out of the sky, and a flood devastated an area around Valencia in eastern Spain. Over 200 people died.

In Chiva, a county west of Valencia, over 400 liters of water fell in eight hours on each square meter. Translated into imperial measures:

Over 2.5 barrels of rain unloaded over an area of 3 x 3 feet in eight hours.

Rapid superheating of the atmosphere driven by greenhouse gas emissions from burning fossil and methane emissions from natural gas leaks and agriculture is the reason behind the catastrophic weather that caused the devastation to Spain.

Spain’s flood is only the last in a series of severe flooding events in the past few years that hit Germany, Italy, South Eastern Europe, Italy, Morocco, and Algeria.
