We recently spoke with a venture capitalist. He could not understand that our customers spend a hundred thousand dollars or more on a PowerBloc. We have two answers.

Stop arguing with our customers! Ask them why. We gave you the top ten reasons “why” in our last update date. Customers buy the PowerBloc because it is cheaper than a utility service upgrade. Because air-conditioning is critical to well-being or even life-saving during a power outage. Or because they cannot get fire insurance and need the power to run wildfire suppression systems. The last and least important reason was saving on electricity costs.

The PowerBloc was not built for the world we live in today but the one we are careening towards faster than a runaway train. Houston’s complete breakdown of its power system after Hurricane Beryl isn’t because Texas does not know how to build power lines. If anyone, Texas can. But extreme weather will break every major city in the South and West. Central power grids are not fit for extreme weather supercharged by climate change.

In an article today, the New York Times writes, “Broken People’: After Beryl, Some Consider Leaving” Houston. We are looking at America’s first internal climate refugees. But where are they going to go? Every major city in the West and South West will experience sooner than later and, more often than not, the dystopian conditions Houston experiences now.

Sure, we can spend trillions on burning lines and otherwise beefing up the grid, but why don’t we spend less to much greater benefit for distributed power systems like the PowerBloc?
