The PowerBloc® is an independent power system. It is the primary power supply to a home or business. Many of our systems do not have utility grid connections. But most of our systems are grid-connected, meaning they use utility energy occasionally to supplement solar energy. None of our PowerBlocs are grid-tied. That is, our inverter does not connect to, and interact with, the grid.

The PowerBloc needs no utility approval and has no regulatory restrictions on energy arbitrage.

This allows the PowerBloc’s energy management complete freedom to operate as is best for the customer. But with this freedom also comes the need to balance available power against load.

The PowerBloc makes it incredibly easy for our customers to set goals on resiliency, cost of energy, and maximum solar self-consumption.

Until now, YouSolar assumed the role of “energy manager” for our customers by setting the system’s operating parameters to reach their goals.

With the next release of the DIYA user interface, we will introduce the Operating Modes screen that allows customers to choose one of five operating modes.

While the five modes are highly intuitive, the energy management that goes on in the background is remarkably complex. But EDISON does the work so that our customers can focus on their lives and not the PowerBloc.
